Wow!  What a melt down.  I am a secret admirer of Phil Michelson.  He has a good approach to the game — doesn’t take himself too seriously.  He was carrying 5 wedges in his bag and couldn’t get the ball close to the pin with 2 that he used on that hole.  Amazing!  He is arguably one of the best shortgame players on tour.  This just wasn’t his day.  Watching him shoot a 9 on hole 13 in the US Open makes me feel great about my game!

Though the card was dotted with some ugly scores on a few holes, I made quite a few pars today.  My GIR was way up and that helped keep par viable.  No birdies even with a good number of looks but sometimes that happens.  I am really encouraged with my ball striking and wedge play from 60 and in.  I hope the weather tricks our local weather casters again tomorrow and gets in the 50s.  I really want to get out there again.  I LOVE THIS GAME!

After slipping on some black ice on my porch, I am missing some good golf weather here in Virginia. The forecast calls for mid 60s tomorrow and a possibility of hitting the 70s! I may just dose up on an anti-inflammatory and hit the links anyway.

This weekend was the Grounds Keepers Revenge tournament at my golf club.  That meant one thing:  incredibly challenging hole placements!  It was a blast.  Some of the holes were so hard you simply had to laugh when you missed the putts.  Can’t wait to hit the links again in the AM!

She tied me at 10 over par on the front nine.  On the back it was a different story as I beat her by 8 shots.  Phew!

I am slowly but surely getting used to the Fusion irons.  I think I am less affected by the slightly smaller head and thinner top line and more by the graphite shafts.   I have to slow my tempo down to ensure the club head stays online.   It’ll be a while before I am complete comfortable but these are keepers!

Played my first round with them Wednesday. It was a mixed bag of shots. I can’t hit the 5 iron to say my life. Put the 5 hybrid back in the bag today and ended up a little worse than normal with a +11 on the front 9. Me and the wife have an 8 AM tee time tomorrow. I’ll keep ‘em but it’ll be a while until I can count on the shot from my new clubs.

Well it turns out that the day I took off of the ankle (Labor Day) was all I needed.  I played a practice round (my terminology for hitting multiple balls from each tee) and shot pretty well.  I have managed to cure my chipping yips after picking up a good tip from the golf channel last night.    The putter was also sorted on the last couple of holes.  I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow to do some additional work.

I tripped on a rock as I walk to a drop zone (yes, I was already injured!) and twisted my ankle. No more golf for today. I need to get a small first aid kit for my bag. The couple that I was playing with had one and I was able to disinfect my scrapes (mainly on the left leg) with a disinfectant napkin. I also need to get a small swiss army knife or small took kit as I almost got stranded on the 6th hole with a push cart that decided to breakdown. I was able to reinsert the screw to enable me to get to the next tee. Lucky for me a groundskeepers happened by and sped off in his cart to get a fillips head screwdriver and tuned me up.
